Within a major of "Integrated Basic Science", the Graduate School Division of Natural Sciences aims to educate scholars who can break new ground from integrated viewpoints, and develop a flexible searching spirit for truth as well as the ability to make comprehensive judgements. We seek to produce scholars who can adequately meet the academic and social needs of the future.
Although there are three fields of study (Mathematics & Computer Science, Material Science, and Life Science) students are requested not only to study specific areas, but also to learn plural methodologies in order to surmount the traditional barriers between different areas of study and to encourage wider view and academic interests in natural science. The new curriculum allows flexibility and a variety of study plans within its single-major structure.
The Graduate School offers students the opportunity to study for a Masters degree, or a PhD in collaboration with the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST).
