The Department of Materials Science in the Graduate School of ICU offers exciting research opportunities and graduate level courses in the traditional fields of chemistry and physics, as well as in trans-disciplinary fields. The Department successfully attracts external funding and has all the basic equipment required for theoretical and experimental investigations in physics and chemistry. In-house equipment includes the following: UV-Vis, fluorescence, circular dichroism (CD), infrared, 500 MHz NMR, single crystal X-ray diffraction (imaging plate area detector), GC (gas chromatograph), GPC (gel permeation chromatograph), HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography), high resolution Ge detector, scanning electron microscope. Through collaborations, we have access to other equipment including synchrotron radiation, ion beam accelerators.
